     Beliefs
What I believe in really had me thinking of a time where a teacher actually made me want to become a teacher just to be like them. Through the 13 years I have been in school; I can think of no better role models them my 8th grade math and English teachers. What I believe I teacher must do is go beyond what they are told to do and push there students to achieve something they never thought they could do; while still being able to reason with the student and understand what they are going through.

My 8th grade English teacher did something no other teacher has done for me in the past; said I could achieve something that I never thought would work for me. Trying out for wrestling, I have never wrestled  before so I was shock that he wanted me to try out. Little did I know he used to be the old wrestling coach. I tried out but didn’t follow through with it, I gave up on wrestling shortly after I started. The next thing my English teacher did surprised me; instead of being mad or disappointed, he urged me to go out for football during my first year of high school instead. Following his advice I tried out for the football team and made it. In 10th grade I broke the school record for accuracy and was ranked third in the national in accuracy as a kicker.

My 8th grade math teacher was a whole new experience for me. This was the first year I went into an advanced class instead of an average class. The whole first semester I was just coasting by with a C, only doing enough work to earn that C. Until one day she pulled me aside and said “If you don’t bring your grade up to a B within midterms I’m going to kick you out of my class.” This was a shock to me, no teacher has ever cared that I get a better grade then a C, all they cared about before was for me to be passing the class. With her pushing me to achieve a higher grade, and for me to actually want to get a better grade, by midterms I had my B and made sure I kept it throughout the rest of the year.

For teachers to rise up past what is asked of them is what I truly believe a being a teacher is all about. With the inspiration of these two teachers I hope to become just like them and help my students become better people along the way.

Cool Tool for Schools

I choose Wolfram alpha as my cool tool for school.  The reason why Wolfram alpha was created was for it to bring math to the masses. Wolfram alpha is a search engine for math problems; it can show you how to do any math problem you would like to know about. The reason why Wolfram alpha is so good is because it is free, and other programs just like it can cost a teacher over $100.

FOOD FIGHT!!

Food in schools; everyone remembers what they used to eat in schools, don't you? For me it was always a chicken patty, no matter what day I would always get one. Thinking back on it, would it have been better if I didn't just eat that and focused more on a healthy meal instead.

A healthy meal a day in schools can be a big factor. For 12 years the students will be eating lunch at school, that’s over 2,000 meals they will eat. People are now taking steps towards making school’s lunches healthier. Just recently the initial legislation set higher standards for lunches, by boosting whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. In doing so they also are eliminating flavored milk, starchy, and fried products.

The big questions is what can 1 meal a day really do? A commitment to proper nutrition produces many benefits for schools, including improving student’s ability to learn. Students that eat healthier meals with work better as a whole; then those students without healthier meals.

Twitter

I am on the side against twitter at the moment. I have always had a view that twitter was worse than Facebook due to the fact that everything i hear something of it; it has to deal with what they are doing at that very moment. I'll try and use twitter, I am probably wrong on my option.

Powerpoint

Teachers never really used power points when I was in schools; it was mostly just white boards and hand out sheets. Using power points this way have opened my eyes to the possibilities to be had! By making the students interact with the work I believe it will help them learn faster and be more excited to learn. Plus I can hide stuff in the power points to make it more fun for me has well; like when they answer a question right I can make the answer they clicked on hyperlink to something funny to get the rest of the class interested in wanted to answer one too. I definitely want to use it in my class now, but I will need to learn how to hyperlink better!

Chapter 1- Understanding the Power of PLNS

Every time I think of myself teaching people I never see technology in the picture, but after reading chapter 1 I now see that I will probably be having to use technology while I teach and have to try and keep up with the times as best as possible.
The section rethinking learning pretty much sums up how I feel right about now. I thought I had some knowledge when it came to computers, and how they work, but now I am worried about how I will be able to keep up with it all and still be able to teach the way I want to teach. This has got me thinking how are the schools supposed to be able to buy all this technology? When I went to school there weren’t very many computers that students could use in class and only one of my classes had a smart board.

The section I found the most interesting has to have been changing skills. It made me realize that with technology; learning becomes a whole different ball game. That the way I learned something will be completely different then how my students will learn something when I teach them. I have been pretty straight forward, you can say, when it comes the way I want to teach my students, but after reading this I have become more open to the idea of different ways of teaching them.

By reading this chapter I have become a little worried and a little excited for the upcoming technology. I am worried because now I have to think outside the box, but I am excited because I always wanted to play with a smart board!
